Look Inside is a cooperative, story-driven board game about mental health. Together you enter the stories of fictional main characters who are struggling with mental health challenges, and you do something that is impossible in real life. You look inside them. You discover their inner world and influence how their story unfolds.
You play together and make your decisions as a team.
For shared moments with friends, family or other people close to you.
For teenagers and adults who are open to stories, riddles and new perspectives.
The game is divided into scenarios, each with its own stories. In every game session you can discover new connections and details.
In an old library, hidden away in another world, you discover a mysterious empathy machine.
It brings together psychological knowledge, human experience and traces of real lives. From these it creates new stories about people whose inner struggles are hard to see from the outside.
Every scenario puts a new fictional main character at the centre. You get to know her daily life, her relationships and her past, and you gain an insight into thoughts, feelings and needs that normally stay hidden from everyone else.
As the story goes on, the main character meets different people and lives through moments that challenge her. Your task is to predict together how she will react.
The twist: you do not decide by how you would act yourselves or what the best reaction would be. You decide by how she is doing right now. Because that is exactly what you can see: her inner world, her thoughts, her feelings and everything that shapes her.
In real life we never get that view. Here it is the key to the game.
You can do more than watch. Through her dreams you reach the main character, and there you send her tips that can help her handle her challenges in daily life. How? Through riddles made of words and images, surprising and out of the ordinary.
And through all of it, look closely. Which solution is right depends on how the character is doing at that moment. The same riddle can call for a completely different answer next time. Solve it, and her story moves on, step by step for the better.
Look Inside brings together three things that are rarely thought of as belonging together: the fun of playing with an easy way in, an experience you share, and psychological content grounded in research. That combination is what makes the difference.
You experience the content rather than just reading or hearing about it, and that is what changes things. You need no prior knowledge. Look Inside deliberately creates a simple, intuitive way in, without anyone having to reveal anything about themselves.
Whether you want to understand each other even better or be there for someone going through something hard, Look Inside never starts with one side alone. It brings you together around one table.
Look Inside draws on scientifically recognised methods, among them behavioural therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, and is developed together with expert professionals. Studies show that an understanding, supportive social environment strengthens resilience as a preventive factor and improves the chances of recovery from mental illness. Source: Robert Koch Institute
