Stigma: the invisible wall
Mental health challenges are common, yet there is still a major obstacle: stigma. It acts like an invisible wall. It stops people from seeking support early. It feeds misunderstandings and misconceptions. And it isolates people at exactly the moment they need support most.
Our approach: breaking down stigma through play
With Look Inside, we want to create a space that feels safe and is also fun, where people can explore mental health together. Instead of presenting abstract information, the game lets players experience psychological strain through a concrete story. Players accompany a person through their everyday life, encounter their thoughts and challenges, and see how the different ways the people around them react affect their wellbeing.
This change of perspective helps players question snap judgements and common misconceptions. They learn that mental illness is neither a personal weakness nor a matter of lacking willpower. They see how complex the situation of someone affected can be, and how much understanding, patience and the right support matter.
Nobody has to share their own experiences. Playing together creates a natural reason to talk, without putting pressure on anyone or putting anyone on the spot. A topic often associated with uncertainty or awkwardness can then turn into an open exchange.
Stigma doesn’t disappear because of a single piece of information. It breaks down when people discover new perspectives, develop empathy and start talking to each other. That is exactly what we want to contribute to with Look Inside.
